Casa de las Américas of Cuba Calls for Defense of Regional Peace

The Casa de las Américas center, located in Havana, today denounced the military aggression against Venezuela and called for the defense of peace and sovereignty in Our America.

The cultural institution recalled, through an official statement on social media, that regional tranquility was shattered on January 3rd by a U.S. attack on Venezuela and the subsequent kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

"Defending Venezuela today is defending the sovereignty of all peoples and the right to a future without wars in our America," the institution affirmed.

The text warned that following the initial offensive, threats of looting against Venezuelan resources and possible actions against other countries have been announced, representing a danger to the region's stability and self-determination.

Under these circumstances, the center demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Maduro and his wife, the cessation of all foreign interference, and full respect for the sovereignty of the people of that Latin American nation.
