Havana, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) The National Council for the Performing Arts of Cuba remembered cartoonist Juan Padron three years after his death on Friday.

“On the anniversary of his death, today we remember National Humor Award winner Juan Padron, a caricaturist, cartoonist, illustrator, and screenwriter, the institution wrote on its Twitter account.

Padron is remembered for his animated cartoon Elpidio Valdes that millions of Cubans have seen.

The characters of the film ‘Vampiros en La Habana’ (Vampires in Havana) and its sequel, in addition to the Filminutos series broadcast on national television, among other creations, emerged from the imagination of the artist, who won the National Humor (2004) and Cinema (2008) awards.

In 1985, the Cuban cartoonist collaborated with the Argentinean humorist Quino (Joaquin Lavado), creator of the popular character Mafalda; and the Quinoscopios series resulted from that relationship.

During his career, Padron participated as a juror or with his works in numerous festivals around the world.

He was a professor at the University of the Arts and gave lectures and animation courses in Europe, as well as storyboard workshops in several Latin American countries.

Padron was also an adviser to the Animation Studios of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), an institution that plans to digitize more than 60 materials by the filmmaker and cartoonist this year.
