La Paz, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Luis Arce warned on Tuesday that Covid-19 is a latent risk, and called on his compatriots to maintain established biosecurity measures to avoid a rise in cases.

'Preventing contagion is in our hands,' the president, elected in the October 18 elections with 55.10% of valid votes, posted on Twitter.

Arce invited Bolivian citizens not to forget wearing facemasks, using hand sanitizer, and maintaining social distancing, the most effective measures to avoid the disease so far.

The number of daily infections reported in the South American country has decreased since the first cases were reported in March.

The Bolivian Ministry of Health reported 56 new cases and nine deaths in the last 24 hours, while Santa Cruz department recorded 30 cases, the highest figure in a day.

Globally, Bolivia reports 144,034 cases and 8,916 deaths of the disease.
