The Belgian Coordinating Committee against the Blockade on Cuba on Wednesday held a new mobilization to demand banks operating in the country not to submit themselves to the US economic, financial hostility against the island with its extraterritorial component.

After staging an rally on November 17 in the eastern city of Liege, located in the French-speaking region of the country, the movement that brings together associations and citizens from different sectors of Belgian society takes the protest to the Flemish city of Ghent.

Our aim is to denounce that banks such as ING and BNP Paribas Fortis do not allow transfers to Cuba, in this case transfers for humanitarian aid, something unacceptable, Wim Leysens, member of the Coordinating Committee’s Secretariat, told Prensa Latina.

According to the solidarity activist, this stance represents an attitude of complicity with the US blockade, contrary to the national and European laws, which prohibit the extraterritorial scope of foreign regulations.

The campaign launched this year by the Belgian Coordinating Committee against the Blockade to Cuba also includes sending e-mails to federal authorities and the directors of ING and BNP Paribas Fortis.
