Argentineans recall 39th anniversary of Malvinas War

Buenos Aires, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) In a new claim for the sovereignty of the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands, a territory occupied by the United Kingdom since 1833, Argentineans are commemorating another anniversary of the war that killed 649 country fellowmen.

Thirty-nine years after the three-month war in the midst of a dictatorship (1976-1983), the relatives of those who died on the Malvinas and people in general will commemorate with different events when the armed forces momentarily recovered the sovereignty of the islands as part of Operation Rosario.

As happened last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many will hang the blue and white flag on the balconies and windows of their homes as a tribute to the deceased and as a hope in a struggle that continues to claim those lands occupied by the United Kingdom.

Today, several activities will take place within the framework of the Veteran's Day and the Day of the Fallen in the Malvinas War, including an event promoted by the Museum that goes through the history of that territory with the beginning of the Sovereignty and Memory Cycle, which will have Minister of Culture Tristan Bauer as a guest.

On the other hand, the TV channels Encuentro, Pakapaka and DeporTV, and the platform Contar, which depend on the Secretariat of Media and Public Communication, will present a special program on the occasion of the anniversary throughout the day.

Argentina and the United Kingdom have been in dispute since 1833 over the Malvinas Islands, which led to the armed conflict of 1982, with a death toll of some 650 national combatants and 255 British soldiers.
