Luanda, Jan 15 (Prensa Latina) Angola presented on Friday to the members of the diplomatic corps its candidacy for one of the African Union (AU) commissions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) reported.

MIREX's candidacy promotes to re-elect Ambassador Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko as AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, a responsibility she has held since January 2017.

During the ceremony, Sacko presented to the members of the African Group of the diplomatic corps accredited in Angola, her vision of the commission, as well as the purposes to request a second term, MIREX stated.

Leading the AU commission, the diplomat defended the need to increase agricultural investments to reverse the high levels of food imports in the continent, in order to guarantee nutritional security and socioeconomic development.

The Malabo Declaration, approved by AU Heads of State and Government in June 2014, promoted the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program, launched in 2003, but its implementation is still insufficient, the official said during a recent meeting with the press.
