Caracas, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America–Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, on Wednesday noted that Prensa Latina is an example of the defense of truth.

On the 62nd anniversary of the Latin American News Agency, ALBA-TCP chief acknowledged Prensa Latina's work in a message on his Twitter account.

'Our most sincere tribute to @PrensaLatina_cu on its 62nd anniversary. Its daily work is a living example of the indispensable fight for truth. A fraternal embrace and recognition to its workers,' Llorenti tweeted.

The first alternative media outlet in the American continent was founded in Havana on June 16, 1959, to counter the big information monopolies.

Prensa Latina was founded in the heat of the so-called Operation Truth, in response to the need to spread Cuba's reality amid media campaigns to discredit the emerging Revolution.

PL was an independent and single voice from Our America, according to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who encouraged its creation, along with Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, Argentinean journalist Ricardo Massetti and other Latin American and Cuban colleagues.
