Cuban actress Isabel Santos won the Best Actress Award for her role in the film based in true events, which recreates the theme of transexuality and gender violence.

Directed by Marilyn Solaya, the film won four Coral Awards during the 36th New Latin American International Film Festival in Havana, besides being nominated to the Goya Awards 2016 in the Best Spanish Language Foreign Film category.

The film Dias de gracia (Mexico-France), premiered in the United States in 2015, won two awards: one for Mexican Tenoch Huerta as Best Leading Actor and for Spanish Carlos Bardem as Best Supporting Actor.

British actress Geraldine Chaplin was recognized for her role in Dolares de arena (Dominican Republic), while Puerto Rican Edna Lee Figueroa won a special award for her work in Medardo (Ecuador-Holland).

Cuban Arturo Sotto won in the Best Director category for Boccaccerias Habaneras; the First Work award was granted to Nitsy Grau for Medardo, and the documentary La realidad de lo imaginario granted the award in this category to Artur Balder.

Since 1966, the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics recognizes the Latin Excellency in cinema, theater and television.
