The Thanglong Water Puppet Theater of Hanoi will perform in Havana for the second time, on August 16-19. On this occasion it brings the new show called Estampas vietnamitas.

The company’s director, Nguyeng Hoang Tuan, expressed his joy for making presentations for the second time in Cuba, where he felt the great interest of the public for his country’s history and culture.

He recalled that the two peoples are united by solid friendship bonds and added that they’re willing to return many a time.

Marionette artist Lo Quoc Toan said he felt at home and pointed out that Cuba was his second homeland, while his compatriot Nguyeng Xuan Long asserted he was very happy to express his great love for the Cuban people.

This art is exclusive to Vietnam and a world cultural heritage. It’s the only company of its kind in Asia and has been continuously working every day over the last 19 years, explained the company’s director.

He pointed out that water puppets appeared in the year 1010, during the Li Reign, that women were not allowed to practice it then and that later presentations were interrupted due to wars. It revived in the 20th century.

Shows will take place at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Trompocoloco Big Top, in this capital.
