Cuba’s Minister of Public Health, Roberto Morales, submitted today an action plan to fight and prevent Zika, dengue, and chikungunya viruses in Cuba.

The plan is set to reverse the complex epidemiological situation in the American continent due to these viruses’ circulation caused by the mosquitoes Aedes (Aedes Aegypti and albopictus), noted the Minister in a press conference.

That is why we need to carry out an intense fight in order to diminish the factors that cause high infestation of these insects and implement immediately sustainable actions of control and surveillance, he added.

Likewise, the Minister commented that it was the right time to strengthen the international sanitary control and support the treatments of already affected patients.

Morales also confirmed there is no Zika, nor chikungunya in Cuba.

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that 55 municipalities in Cuba have high rate of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Raul Castro’s call shows we may become one of the best examples for the world in the health field.

In that regard, he applauded the decision to summon the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Cuba’s National Police Force to reinforce the anti-Mosquito campaign as well as sanitation.
