The Heber-NASVAC vaccine to treat Hepatitis C is among the new productions of the National Centre for Bio-formulas (BIOCEN) located in Bejucal, Mayabeque province in Cuba.

Julio Cesar Portuondo, director of the centre, said that the first batches of the drug are being packaged for trial to get a licence and certification of good practice, since patients will receive the drug in liquid applications through the nasal cavity, the Cubasi website reported on Thursday.

The BIOCEN executive noted that the product is manufactured in the centre’s facilities but that it is the result of research work by the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

Workers at Bio-formulas in Mayabeque carry out the process of formulation and filling of the vaccine, which is being made industrially for the first time in the country, Portuondo pointed out.
