Cuba strengthens cooperation with customs in the Caribbean

Cuba became the first Caribbean country to ratify the Convention establishing the Caribbean Customs Organization and on mutual administrative assistance in customs matters.

The Cuban ambassador to Saint Lucia, Alejandro Simancas Martin, submitted the document to the permanent secretary of that institution, Albert Sandy, according to a statement from the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

This treaty was initially signed by 14 members at the 41st meeting of the Council in Havana on May 22, 2019, under the slogan "The road to success, strength through unity.

The Cuban General Customs authorities had promised that his nation would be the first to sign the agreement, and has also been the first to ratify it, so we are very grateful, Sandy said at the presentation ceremony.

He also congratulated Cuban authorities and people for their convictions and support for the organization and its work.

The Cuban ambassador affirmed that with this step his country demonstrates the will to continue strengthening its cooperation relations with the Caribbean states and with regional institutions.
