Guyana''s President David Arthur hosted here on Saturday Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez who''s making an official visit and described the meeting as fraternal.

The Cuban official wrote in Twitter the two ratified 'the positive state of bilateral relations and the common will of continuing working for their strengthening.'

Before, Rodriguez met with his Guyanese peer, Karen Cummings, and Prime Minister and First Vice President Moses Veerasammy Nagamootoo.

The Cuban FM began early Saturday morning his official visit to Guyana by placing a wreath at the Independence Arch, one of Georgetown's symbolic sites. This is his third leg of a Caribbean tour that also took him to St. Lucia and Trinidad-Tobago.

He also participated at the 6th Ministerial Meeting Caricom-Cuba, held in Georgetown that is the venue of the regional organization. Participants expressed their will to consolidate Caribbean unity and strengthen ties.

Cuba and Guyana set up diplomatic relations in December 1972 and since then the two countries have shared a history of friendship. Havana thanked Georgetown for demanding the lifting of the US blockade and conveyed its readiness to keep up fostering cooperation on the field of medicine. A Cuban team of doctors are currently working in Guyana.
