Cuban President meets with representatives of the United States technological sector

At the Google headquarters in New York, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez held a meeting Monday with executives from several companies in the information and communications technology sector, interested in the potentialities of the Cuban market and the prospects of development of the country.

Invited by Eric Shmidt, Vice President of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, the Cuban leader exchanged with the attendees about the development of high technologies, their role in the advancement of developing countries and the challenges for their use in a world every time more unequal.

During the meeting, Díaz-Canel stressed that the computerization of society is a priority of the Cuban government. In this regard, he stressed that the blockade imposed by the United States is the main obstacle to achieving the development of this area to its maximum capacity.

The President referred to the valuable human resources potential that Cuba has to advance in this area and to the opportunities that open up in other sectors of advanced technologies, such as biotechnology.

The meeting was attended by Google’s top executives, VaynerMedia, Connectify, Mapbox, Virgin Group, AirBnB, Revolution, Twitter, Microsoft, Bloomberg, Cresta.

On the Cuban side they accompanied the President, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla; the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz; and the Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella.
