A particularly rough year ends. It has been one of the toughest in recent history and few times an upcoming year has risen up greater expectations for a whole nation. A process of changes involving all the social, economic, and cultural panorama lies ahead. And they will not be just superficial changes.

Amid a complex international panorama, and submitted to a permanent harassment from a blockade, which is much more than just propaganda, Cuba has to reinvent itself, modify schemes, and adapt to new circumstances. We need to change everything that must be changed, as stated by our Commander in Chief two decades ago in his Revolution Concept.

The change always triggers concerns. But it is the basic condition for evolution. Change for a better future is what the whole nation aims for.

Some believe that, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was not the timing for the long-awaited currency unification, wage reform. Some do not understand why this longed wage increase implies necessarily a rise in prices. You cannot share an inexistent wealth; you need to create that wealth. And the only way to do it is by working. The State and government need to clear the way, but the challenge involves the entire nation.

The upcoming year may be better. It has to be better. But great challenges lie ahead: unity, joint efforts, and the citizens’ commitment. Propaganda does not build by itself a wealthy country.

There are reasons for optimism, different to what the enemies of the Revolution believe. There is people with a sky-high moral, which have been capable of facing hardships without losing the spirit. There is a will to live, and feasible projects.

Let’s celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution with the certainty that this is a permanent Revolution. A Revolution for the good of all, as Martí dreamed of. Let’s dream about a better Cuba. Let’s work to achieve such dream.
