Minister Highlights Sector's Energy Dependence and Efforts to Maintain Connectivity
Mayra Arevich Marín, Minister of Communications, highlighted today on the program Mesa Redonda that this sector fundamentally depends on energy, which is why they maintain a close link with the Electrical Union and are seeking alternatives to maintain a service that is vital for the population.
In this sense, she pointed out that the use of digital platforms at times when people's mobility is limited is essential. "It is crucial that economic actors and the general population make appropriate use of them, always responsibly," while also underscoring the importance of Transfermovil, a platform that does not require data for its use and that especially facilitates the payment of services.
Banking System Adaptations and Vital Communication Channels
Arevich Marín emphasized that the banking system is readjusting its services to protect the population, and the vitality of postal and informational communications is also maintained, always in coordination with local governments for their better development.
She stated that the gradual recovery of ETECSA's battery reserves has allowed the situation with backup batteries to improve, which maintains data connectivity even if there is no electricity in an area. She highlighted that they are working on renewable energy projects for telephony and mail, as radio and television have more complex conditions for their use.
Commitment to Digital Inclusion and Sovereign Platforms
She also referred to the work of the Joven Club de Computación, an idea promoted by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, to bring the population closer to computing. This project has not been abandoned and is carried out in coordination with local governments so that more people each day use digital means to conduct their banking transactions.
Furthermore, she mentioned the national platforms toDus, Picta, and apklis, which expand the possibilities for the population's use of the internet and constitute a success for a country that has these sovereign avenues of access to new information technologies.
