UN Assesses Tensions in Gaza Strip
UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolai Mladenov will offer on Tuesday a report to the Security Council, while tensions in the Gaza Strip are increasing.
Mladenov expects on Tuesday to meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to discuss the recent violent events near the border fence with Israel of that occupied Palestinian territory.
On Monday, Guterres expressed concern about the latest events related to Gaza and called on the Palestinian and Israeli sides to restrained themselves.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said so and stressed the need to avoid any act that may worsen the situation on the ground, especially for civilians.
The spokesperson referred to the launching of a rocket from Gaza towards Israel, which he considered a serious violation, and noted that they are also aware of the reports about the open fire by the Tel Aviv security forces against the Palestinian territory.
We continue monitoring closely those events and we urge both sides to exercise maximum restraint, the spokesperson said.
