“When Gal Gadot says that she supports sexual assault survivors, do not believe it,” read the post on publishing platform Medium.
Gal Gadot, of Wonder Woman fame — the film that was banned in parts of the Middle East for featuring Gadot, the ‘Zionist’ actress — has come under fire again, for alleged hypocrisy on her views surrounding victims of sexual assault.
The online publishing site, Medium, has suspended an anonymous post that accused the movie star of victim-blaming, when the writer herself was allegedly raped by one of Gadot’s friends 13 years ago.
Recently, Gadot has released public statements siding with victims of sexual assault and bullying. She has also reportedly refused to appear in the sequel to Wonder Woman, after allegations of sexual harassment and assault surfaced against director Brett Ratner, if his financing company, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, is involved.
In the Medium post, which was taken down Tuesday, the writer claims to have lived in Milan with the actress, when the two had just started in the modeling industry as teenagers. When the writer was raped by a close friend of Gadot’s, Gadot had been less than supportive.
“Her hypocrisy is deeply wounding,” read the post. “The shame and blame she instilled into me after I was raped was deeply traumatizing.”
“When Gal Gadot says that she supports sexual assault survivors, do not believe it. Her actions speak louder than words,” the post had ended.
When Wonder Woman came out earlier this year, Jordan and Lebanon were among the countries to ban the film, with one Jordanian Palestine-solidarity group having stated, “The Arab audience will not be involved in projects that represent Zionism and the Israeli army.”
Gadot, who played the character of Wonder Woman, served in the Israeli army for two years — exactly when Israel was waging an assault on Lebanon, during the 2006 34-day Lebanon War.
In 2014, during Israel’s attack on Gaza, the actress had also posted an image on Facebook lauding the Israeli military’s actions, saying she was sending prayers to soldiers "who are risking their lives protecting my country against the horrific acts conducted by Hamas."
With regards to Gadot’s view on the Israeli occupation, the writer of the Medium post had added, “She fed me information about Israel. Whenever she discussed Palestinians, she showed deep hatred.”
When contacted by Buzzfeed News as to why the post had been taken down, Medium had refused to comment as of Wednesday.
Many have taken to Twitter to tweet their disappointment at the news, tweeting under the hashtag, #GalGadotisOverParty, with many adding that the actress should never have been supported from since it came to light she had served in the Israeli Defense Forces.
