According to a survey released Monday by Telemundo and MSNBC, just 31 percent of those surveyed feel that the U.S. Constitution should be modified so that the children of undocumented migrants would not automatically acquire U.S. citizenship by virtue of being born here.
The survey also reveals that 55 percent of Americans have a negative opinion of Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, and this percentage rises to 70 percent among Latinos.
On the other hand, 53 percent of Republican supporters have a positive opinion of the New York real estate magnate, who continues to lead all other GOP candidates in voter surveys, albeit with more than a year to go before the 2016 election.
The Telemundo and MSNBC poll also gives Hillary Clinton a 13-point advantage over Trump (53 percent to 40 percent, respectively), and this gap is even larger among Latino voters (60 percent to 22 percent).
The survey was conducted among 1,689 adults between Aug. 26 and Sept. 9, 2015, two months after Trump hurled harsh criticism at illegal immigration and proposed erecting a wall along the border with Mexico, the construction of which he said he would require the neighboring country to finance.
