Legendary Cuban Group Celebrates Milestone with Vibrant Havana Concert
The group Síntesis energized the Covarrubias Hall of the capital's National Theater today, where no one remained indifferent to the musicality of the renowned Cuban ensemble, as part of the 41st International Jazz Plaza Festival.
With this concert, the group marks the beginning of celebrations for its 50th anniversary—a musical journey filled with sacrifice, but also with many good emotions.
This was expressed by Ele Valdés in exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, after concluding a show that had the entire audience dancing.
A Night of Celebration and Musical Heritage
Good vibes, applause, emotions, and recognition of artistic excellence characterized the recital. Each composition was experienced as if for the first time, even as the audience accompanied them with knowledge and admiration.
It was a recounting of these five decades, during which they performed a repertoire of well-known Afro-Cuban pieces, including a version of Elogio de la danza, by Cuban composer and guitarist Leo Brouwer, and Canto a Obatalá, by Lucía Huergo.
The acclaimed pianist Roberto Fonseca joined them for Conmigo en la Clave, while Aldo López-Gavilán placed his hands on the piano to interpret Ogun Mariwo, a composition by Esteban Puebla, alongside them.
Another guest tonight was the young saxophonist Gabriela Muriedas, who took the stage to perform Canto a Obatalá.
First of Several Anniversary Celebrations
This is the first concert Síntesis has offered in Havana in tribute to its 50th anniversary. Also within the festival's framework, they will perform this Friday at the Parque Vidal in Santa Clara, one of the provincial venues.
"Throughout the year, we will hold new concerts and invite musicians who have been part of the group, some residing in Cuba and others abroad," Ele Valdés revealed.
Reflecting on the result of these five decades of work, he expressed: "Many things have happened, but the most satisfying aspect is that several generations now follow us, and we feel that in every concert."
He emphasized that during all this time, "we have had the opportunity to share with very good musicians both inside and outside the country, and, above all, the recognition of the audience."
