Sri Lankan Group Urges UN Action on Threat Against Venezuela

The Sri Lankan organization Global South Anti-Imperialist Alliance has urged the United Nations to intervene immediately in light of the military threat currently posed by the United States against Venezuela.

In a letter signed by the alliance's coordinator, Uvindu Wijeweera, and addressed to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, a call is made for urgent international action to reduce tensions and safeguard peace.

According to the Sri Lankan organization, the appeal reflects growing concern over recent events involving the United States and their impact on Venezuela's sovereignty and regional stability.

The group urged the United Nations to uphold international law and take proactive measures to prevent any military confrontation.

With civil-military unity and the leadership of the Bolivarian government, Venezuela is resisting an unprecedented onslaught from Washington aimed at seizing the South American nation's natural resources and oil through naval blockades and a potential armed aggression.

In a recent address to the United Nations Security Council, Venezuela's Permanent Representative to the UN, Samuel Moncada, warned that the danger looms not only for his country but for all of Latin America.

The diplomat asserted that Venezuela is merely the first target of a larger plan and stated that the United States will not allow compliance with international regulations nor permit the Council to obstruct its sinister agenda.

He further emphasized that the U.S. government violates international law and its own legislation through the killings it carries out in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean under the pretext of a supposed fight against drug trafficking.

Moncada stated that Washington refuses to provide evidence of these crimes because it would reveal its cruelty, which would provoke global revulsion.
