The Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) has reiterated the call for submissions for the sixth edition of the Ibero-American Education in Human Rights Award, "Óscar Arnulfo Romero," in the city of Santa Clara, located in central-southern Cuba.
A Prestigious Regional Initiative
Established by the OEI in 2015, the award recognizes projects that promote human rights, a culture of peace, sustainable development, and global citizenship through education. Over its five previous editions, the initiative has received more than two thousand proposals from across the region. Cuba has been a notable participant with initiatives from the "Solidaridad con Panamá" and "Dora Alonso" schools.
"This Award is an emblematic OEI initiative for projects that promote more just, egalitarian, and inclusive societies, and Cuba always participates with innovative projects aimed at educating people with disabilities; this year, even more projects are being presented," stated Iosnara Fernández, Director of the OEI Office in Cuba, in an interview with Prensa Latina.
Submission Details and Thematic Focus
The submission period for this edition is open until December 21 of this year. Eligible participants include projects, educational institutions, and Local Development Projects based in any Ibero-American nation. Applications can be submitted online.
"This Award seeks to stimulate environmental efforts; human rights education, including in digital transformation; the integration and rights of migrant and displaced populations; and the role of artificial intelligence and the use of digital networks," explained Arahy Martín Silva, Project Technician for the OEI, to Prensa Latina.
Building on Past Success and Looking Forward
The fifth edition marked a milestone with a public event organized in conjunction with the Cuban Association of the United Nations, where 21 projects from educational institutions, social, and community organizations were presented. The award was granted to "Proyecto Palomas, Casa Productora de Audiovisuales para el Activismo Social."
The new call for submissions will place emphasis on programs that defend democratic coexistence, the rights of migrants, and the empowerment of women and girls. Submitted projects must showcase good educational practices in human rights and advocate for commitments to a fairer and more sustainable world.
