Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, held a fraternal meeting on Thursday afternoon with Army General Julio César Avilés Castillo, Commander-in-Chief of the Military Forces of the Army of the Republic of Nicaragua. Through him, Díaz-Canel sent greetings to his counterpart Daniel Ortega and to Rosario Murillo.

The Head of State emphasized that this visit will contribute to "strengthening, expanding, and consolidating the historic relations between Cuba and Nicaragua."

The meeting was also attended by Corps General Álvaro López Miera, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and Corps General Joaquín Quintas Solá.

Díaz-Canel reaffirmed the close relations between the two revolutions and their cooperation, including in the field of defense. "Nicaragua and Cuba have always defended common positions," he stressed.

He also highlighted the strength of the bilateral ties between Nicaragua's Sandinista National Liberation Front and the Communist Party of Cuba, between the parliaments of the two countries, and between their armed forces.

He also recalled the internationalist mission he carried out in the late 1980s in the Central American brother nation. "For me, Nicaragua is deeply cherished," he emphasized.

Thanking the Cuban President for his welcome, Army General Julio César Avilés Castillo conveyed "the greetings and appreciation" of the Nicaraguan Presidency, homeland, and army to the largest of the Antilles.
