President Díaz-Canel Mourns the Passing of Iconic Cuban Artist Zenaida Armenteros

President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his sorrow today over the passing this Sunday of artist Zenaida Armenteros at the age of 94, whom he described as one of the greatest exponents of Cuban folklore.
 

"My most heartfelt condolences to her family and to her colleagues at the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional, of which she was a founder and prima ballerina," the head of state wrote on the social media platform X.

The previous day, the Ministry of Culture had expressed its profound sorrow at the death of Armenteros, one of the most emblematic figures of popular art on the island, the institution stated in a release.

A prima ballerina, singer, actress, and founder of the National Folkloric Ensemble, Armenteros dedicated her life to the preservation and dignification of Cuban cultural identity, captivating audiences with her talent and humility, the note detailed.

"Her artistic legacy and her example will live on eternally in every scene, every song, and every heart that loves Cuban culture. Thank you, Zenaida, for so much. Rest in peace, Queen of our folklore," expressed the Ministry.
