The International Women's House in this capital pays tribute to Cuban heroine Celia Sanchez with a pictorial exhibition inspired by the revolutionary fighter, which is open to the public in that Italian institution as of this Wednesday.
Entitled “The Most Autochthonous Flower of the Revolution,” the exhibition is an initiative of the Rome Circle of the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC), sponsored by the Cuban Embassy in this country. It features serigraphs by 14 important Cuban painters.
During the exhibition at the Ingargiola Hall of that cultural center on Tuesday, Damian Delgado, adviser and second head of the Cuban diplomatic mission, thanked the Italian people for this tribute to the memory of a person who “symbolizes Cuban women’s integrity and heroism.”
Delgado stated that Celia was the first female combatant in the incipient guerrilla group in the Sierra Maestra mountain range, that fought against Fulgencio Batista´s dictatorship. He also underscored that she remained in the Rebel Command until the revolution triumph in January 1959.
The diplomat noted that after the victory, Celia played a significant role in leading the Revolution, always along with the historic leader of that process, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
