The Cuban emerging private sector, represented by 26 entities at the 2nd International Sports Fair, is considered a key ally to modernize and diversify the Cuban sports system.

The private businesses along with 51 state entities and 15 foreign companies are displaying innovative services which strengthen the working relationships between the state-run and private sectors.

With 30 percent of exhibitors from the private initiative, the sports fair becomes a game changer in the Cuba sports policy.

The director of Marketing and Development at the state-run Cubadeportes S.A. enterprise, Ediunys Carranza told ACN about the transformation instilled by the non-state sector.

“The fair reveals that private businesses are strategic partners to make Cuban sports more dynamic. Their flexibility, innovation and response capacity complement state efforts, particularly in areas like the manufacture of equipment, technical training and other specialized services,” said Carranza.

One of the private exhibitors is Velo Cuba private company dedicated to promoting cycling culture. The business manages a cycling mobility school certified by the Cuban Higher Education Ministry and offers bike mechanical courses to children from 3 to 5 years of age.

Another private business at the fair is Chueco company in the manufacture and marketing of sport textiles, including uniforms, accessories for baseball, soccer and other sports.

These new non-state companies offer services and technologies for sport training and are part of a scenario where the diversity of economic actors enriches sports, the executive noted.
