Ceremony To Mark 48th Anniversary Of Cubana Airlines Disaster

The 48th anniversary of the bombing of the Cubana de Aviacíon flight 455 on October 6, 1976, will be commemorated this Sunday, October 6, at 11:30 a.m., with a ceremony at the Cubana Monument, Paynes Bay, St. James.
Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, will speak on behalf of the Government during the ceremony. There will also be remarks by Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Barbados, Yanet Stable Cárdenas; Consul General of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to Barbados, Geneva Ross-Tyndall; and Assistant Secretary-General CARICOM Single Market and Trade, Ambassador Wayne McCook.
There will also be presentations by spoken word poet Cindy Celeste and the Haynesville Youth Group. The commemorative event will conclude with the laying of wreaths in remembrance of the 73 victims, including 11 Guyanese, who perished on that day.
The ceremony will also mark the second CARICOM-Cuba Day Against Terrorism, which was designated by the Heads of Government of CARICOM and Cuba at the Eighth CARICOM-Cuba Summit in December 2022.
Barbados and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 8, 1972.
