The cultural space Feria de los Trovadores (Trova Fair) in Holguin celebrated its eighth anniversary in an afternoon of enjoyment with its usual audience at Casa de la Trova Los Guayaberos in the provincial capital city, honoring the figure of its creator Raul Prieto.
According to Lay Verdecia, musical producer of the project, its existence over eight years has brought together the community of trova interpreters in this eastern Cuban region.
“It is a moment in the month where we can officially gather all the interpreters of the genre to sing our songs and socialize among us. It is something that helps us grow and plant a flag in the city of Holguin so that this Cuban legacy continues to be in force,” he said.
He also added that the venue, at La Casa de la Trova Los Guayaberos, is a good starting point to extend to other cultural centers in the city so that people who like singer-songwriters can enjoy this movement.
The Trova Fair, a space where Raúl Prieto, Raúl Damián, Fernando Cabreja, Lay Verdecia, Leanet Velázquez, Camilo de la Peña, Edelis Cabeja and Manuel Leandro Sánchez have converged, has provided a space of union for the Holguin interpreters of the genre since September 29, 2016, thanks to the initiative of singer-songwriter Raúl Prieto, an artist devoted to culture from this land, who has become a leader for the new generations of local interpreters.
Eight years after the birth of this project, Prieto’s legacy is still alive, as the Fair provides a space for the growth of amateur trova interpreters, ideal to nurture the genre, which is part of Cuba’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
