The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, UNEAC, celebrates its 63rd anniversary. The organization, which brings together the best exponents of creation and thought in all manifestations of art, has played a fundamental role in the cultural life of the nation.

Throughout these years, it has consolidated itself as a key space for the convergence and debate of ideas, offering a platform to artists and intellectuals in particularly complex times.

In times of growing influence of pseudo-culture, which almost always brings with it colonizing and homogenizing schemes, UNEAC emerges as a bastion of Cuban cultural identity.

In a globalized world, where cultural products tend to become standardized and where identity values risk being silenced, UNEAC presents itself as a bastion of authentic artistic expressions and Cuban cultural traditions, based on clear hierarchies.

The colonial and mercantilist schemes of pseudo-culture, with their capacity to trivialize and distort, represent an enormous challenge for any nation that values its cultural heritage.

In this context, UNEAC should not only be assumed as a meeting place for the best Cuban artists, but also a permanent forum where authenticity is defended and mediocrity is rejected.

This authentic cultural battle is not just a matter of artistic preferences or passing fads, as some have tried to present and relativize it; it is a real threat to cultural diversity.

With this awareness, it is mandatory to foster critical debate, a deep analysis that encourages Cuban artists to position themselves with works that, without denying contemporaneity and dialogue with the world, reaffirm their roots.

In this sense, a fruitful confrontation of ideas must gain greater relevance. Unity from diversity. Not only the problems associated with creation should be the responsibility of UNEAC. There is a clear projection in all areas of national life. Artists have much to contribute.

The tensions of the complex moment that the country is facing cannot limit the strength of artistic discourse. UNEAC can reach consensus, promoting a critical, committed art. And forge a culture of resistance, a civic-mindedness.

The organization is not a simple social club for artists: it has to consolidate itself as a dynamic entity, a trench of the best creation, a critical conscience of a society in permanent revolution.
