Argentine social and union organizations will ratify the call for a mobilization that will take place on August 7th to reject the adjustment and the general policies of the government of Javier Milei.

On this day, the Union of Popular Economy Workers (UTEP) will hold assemblies throughout out the country to urge citizens to participate in the protest.

“In an Argentina where seven out of 10 children are in poverty, different union, social, religious and human rights groups will mobilize to make visible the serious emergency,” says a statement from UTEP and other organizations such as the Central of Workers (CTA), which also specified that it will take place in a context marked by the destitution increase and hunger, especially in popular neighborhoods where food does not reach community kitchens.

“We face persecution, the attack on workers, denialism and contempt for the progress achieved with the Memory, Truth and Justice policies, the serious situation of our retirees and the lack of access to medicines for cancer patients in a great context of unity,” indicates the statement, which also denounces the closure of small and medium-sized companies in the private and state sectors and the consequent wave of layoffs; the defunding of science, public schools and universities; the unfavorable situation of neighborhood clubs and the handover of Argentina’s sovereignty and resources.

“Both from the popular economy (…) without public policies that accompany the sector, and from the salaried employment that does not stop losing purchasing power and coexists with uncertainty daily, we will fight for bread, peace, land, shelter and work,” the organization concluded.

The Autonomous CTA confirmed its participation in the protest, while the State Workers Association announced that it would carry out a national strike.
