The board of directors of the Association of the Community of Cuban Residents in Angola (ACCRA) underscored the unity and resistance of the Cuban people in light of adversity, when commemorating National Rebelliousness Day on Friday.

In a statement published on its social networks, the organization pointed out that in the face of the intensification of the economic blockade and the aggressive policies enforced by the United States against Cuba, the Caribbean nation reactivates its capacity for resistance that emanates from the people.

The press release recalled the historic importance of the simultaneous attacks on the Moncada Garrison, in Santiago de Cuba, and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barraks, in Bayamo, on July 26, 1953, under the leadership of the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

More than a hundred young people carried out the action with the purpose of starting the fight to overthrow the dictator Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958), and despite suffering a setback and the murders of many companions, they did not give up their efforts until they achieved the triumph of his ideas just over five years later.

“Moncada was a bitter test of adversity. But the defeat of this action taught them to turn setbacks into victory,” said the statement, which noted that July 26, 1953, represents a historic turning point, not only for the Cuban people, but for the revolutions of the 20th century.

“The Cuban Revolution surpassed the limits of bourgeois consciousness and identified itself with the revolutionary class, becoming one of the great proletarian revolutions of our time.”

The message acknowledged the social work undertaken since the January 1, 1959, triumph and the way in which the people have defended the revolutionary process at crucial times such as the economic crisis in the 1990s, after the demise of the socialist camp.

“Popular unity around the revolutionary project will be the bulwark to confront this new imperialist offensive and correct the errors in the construction of the new society,” the statement added.
