As part of the celebrations for the Day of the Cuban Troubadour, the historic route through the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in this eastern city was held today to pay tribute to the initiators of this musical genre on the island.

The 17 graves and the altar to the father of Cuban trova and bolero, Pepe Sanchez, were visited by Spanish visitors and those from all the provinces of the country as part of the 61st edition of the festival.

Elizabeth Sariol, chief specialist in museology of the patrimonial necropolis, explained that the origins of this event date back to the 11th century, when composers combined different cultural traditions.

Pancho Amat, this year's honored artist at the event, concluded that to compose in the troubadour style of Compay Segundo, Ñico Saquito and Gustavo Reve, one needs charm, a message and an contagious refrain.

The artists' tour in commemoration of Cuban Troubadour Day culminated with the performance of "Trova a Pepe Sanchez" by the Santiago duo Cohiba.
