Argentine workers to hold first strike during Milei’s administration

Members of social union and political organizations will participate in the first general strike against the Government of Javier Milei.
The actions were convened by the General Confederation of Labor and will have as their motto “The Homeland is not for sale.”
The protesters will express their rejection of an adjustment plan, an anti-protest protocol, a decree of necessity and urgency and a package of regulations presented by the President to reform or repeal more than 300 laws, granting legislative powers to the Executive, privatizing public companies and changing the labor system, among other provisions.
The Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Hijos, Somos Barrios de Pie, the Association of State Workers (ATE), the Central Workers of Argentina (CTA) and the Autonomous CTA, among many other groups, confirmed their presence. The Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers and the Association of Aeronautical Personnel also announced their participation, therefore train, bus, metro and domestic flight services will be suspended during the day.
The 20 parties that form the Unión por la Patria alliance also support the strike and the rally, including the Justicialista and the Communist, the Frente Renovador, the Patria Grande and the Popular Conservative parties.
According to the General Labor Confederation, over 100 organizations from around the world expressed their support for the struggle of the Argentine labor movement.
The Confederation of the Americas, the International Federation of Journalists, the Confederation of Workers’ Commissions of Spain and entities from Peru, the Dominican Republic, Chile, Paraguay, France and Italy, among other countries, also conveyed their solidarity.
