The president of the National People's Power Assembly (Parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, arrived at the Noi Bai international airport in Vietnam on Sunday on an official visit.
The Cuban legislative body reported on its website that Lazo met with members of the Cuban Embassy here upon his arrival in Vietnam.
The head of Parliament also met with the Vice President of the Union of Organizations of Vietnam and with members of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, to whom he expressed his satisfaction with being back in Vietnam, especially on the 50th anniversary of the visit of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to this nation.
The parties insisted on the importance of further increasing cooperation between the provinces and cities of the two countries.
Members of the Cuban delegation accompanying Lazo expressed Cuba’s gratitude to Vietnam for its support at difficult times and in the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
The first vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Noemí Rabaza, noted that bilateral relations, “rather than ties of friendship, are ties of brotherhood.”
The deputy director of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Juan Carlos Marsán, in turn, called to cultivate the deep historic relationship between peoples in the new generations.
As part of his agenda in Vietnam, the Cuban parliamentary leader will participate in several events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s visit, hold official talks with the highest Vietnamese authorities, tour historic sites and pay tribute to Ho Chi Minh.
