Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel met on Friday with members of the baseball shortlisted team of Villa Clara and sports glories at the Augusto Cesar Sandino stadium in this city.
The Cuban head of State, in his capacity of parliamentary candidate from Santa Clara, was interested in the training of the team that will defend the province in the 62nd National Baseball Series in March, under the command of Coach Ramon More, who won the crown in the 52nd campaign in 2013.
Other prominent former athletes and coaches present at the event were Pedro Jova, who won three successive national tournaments with the Villa Clara team in the 1990s, and glories from other sports such as basketball.
The Augusto Cesar Sandino stadium, which bears the name of the Nicaraguan revolutionary and patriot, was inaugurated in 1966 and has hosted multiple national and international events.
