Havana, April 12 (RHC)-- Deputies from the provinces of Havana, Mayabeque, and Matanzas, analyzed on Monday the draft laws of the Penal Code, Penal Execution, and the Process of Protection of Constitutional Rights, which will be submitted for approval at the next session of the Cuban Parliament.

The meeting was headed by the Vice President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Ana Mari Machado.

During the meeting, the People's Supreme Court president, Rubén Remigio Ferro, explained that the draft Penal Code would replace the current one, with modifications and instructions made following the present Constitution.

Among its novelties, it introduces the possibility of extradition of Cuban citizens who have citizenship or permanent residence in the requesting state or a foreigner with Cuban citizenship.

The draft Penal Execution Law reinforces principles of rights and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution and international treaties in force in the country.

It provides for differentiated treatment of prisoners in vulnerable situations, among other novelties.

In this sense, Remigio Ferro stated that this law would establish guarantees for pregnant and puerperal women, such as receiving social security benefits during maternity leave, incorporation into maternal programs, specialized medical attention, and neonatal and pediatric care for the child.

The Protection of Constitutional Rights project foresees the reparation of damages caused to people by the violation of these guarantees.

At the end of the meeting, the vice-president of the Cuban Parliament stressed the importance of complying with the legislative schedule updated last December.

Ana Mari Machado said that she notes an extraordinary depth in each of the laws submitted for debate, discussion, and study for their subsequent referral to the Assembly.

In the next ordinary session of the Cuban Parliament, eight legal norms that expand the provisions of the current Constitution are expected to be submitted for approval.
