George Mavrikos, General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), visited on Sunday the Ernesto Che Guevara Sculptural Complex, where he paid tribute to the heroic guerrilla and his fallen comrades in Bolivia.
Accompanied by Ulises Guilarte Birth, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and general secretary of the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC by its Spanish acronym) and Jorgelina Pestana, President of the Government in Villa Clara, Mavrikos toured the museum and memorial.
He told reporters that the visit to the memorial of Commander Ernesto Guevara was a great honor and a very emotional moment, because Che was a guerrilla and internationalism artist.
On behalf of the 90 million members of the World Federation of Trade Unions now living and working in 126 countries on five continents, we express our respect and are committed by a fraternal world, and camaraderie with the Cuban Revolution, he said.
He said he agrees to support the direction of the CTC, which decisively and militant marches with Cuban workers, and in their efforts to move forward.
He added that Cuba is not alone and many parts of the world workers struggle for progress and socialism.
We are aware of the economic and social transformations that take place on the island where the CTC plays a leading role in that effort and we are at its side, he said.
We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and other health workers in Cuba, those working in the most remote corners of the world and now meet the honorable mission in West Africa, where they face a dangerous epidemic, he said.
The WFTU General Secretary said that next year, the organization he represents will give lectures in various parts of the world, in order to give greater strength to the fight against the US blockade of Cuba and for the release of Cuban heroes Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino, serving unfair sentences in US jails.
