Another Trick in the European Parliament

Once again, the human rights situation in Cuba is the object of analysis by the deputies of the European Parliament. It already seems like an obsession. In a world crushed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ravaged by conflicts in several regions, in a shockingly uneven world, where wealth is poorly distributed, where systemic injustices continue... some MEPs single out Cuba. They are very concerned about Cuba. They lose sleep over Cuba. As if Cuba defined the international agenda.

We are, in any case, before a hypocritical, biased, and unjustified exercise. The members of the European Parliament should deal with many issues: conflicts and challenges of the politics of that continent, which is not, in many cases, a model of ethics for the rest of the world (even though some politicians in that region insist on giving lessons of correction and good manners ... even if they are unasked for).

And the worst thing is that, although it’s presented as an independent and sovereign action, it’s very clear that the debate is subject to the anti-Cuban policy of the United States government, which at the same time is held hostage by conservative sectors that have made hatred a profitable business.

The European Parliament has no morals or powers to judge Cuba. And its resolutions in that sense are no more than dead paper. The double standards of these initiatives are evident. No debates have been called to analyze the flagrant and daily violations of human rights in other countries that the same people who seek to condemn Cuba consider allies, and strangely, the promoters of the trick don’t consider the blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean country as a violation, despite the fact that it’s condemned by the vast majority of the international community.

Europe is not the metropolis of Cuba. That seems to be ignored by some MEPs. Cuba is committed to a mutually beneficial relationship with Europe, based on respect and equality. Cuba is not afraid to debate any issue, but it will not accept blatant interference. Cuba's problems are discussed here.
