At least 1 killed in Texas store shooting, suspected gunman in custody

Police responded to a shooting at the Kent Moore Cabinets store around 2:30pm local time on Thursday, Bryan police chief Eric Buske told reporters, adding that the suspect had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. One person was found dead of gunshot wounds, while five others were brought to hospital, four in critical condition and another who suffered an asthma attack but was not injured in the shooting.
Buske said police “believe” the suspect is in custody and that he is an employee at the store, but added that the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) would have to confirm. A DPS trooper was later shot in nearby Iola while pursuing a suspect; the chief said it appears the two incidents are related.
As the incident unravelled, a nearby school was temporarily placed on lockdown, which has since ended.
The FBI said it is “aware of the incident that occurred today in Bryan,” but that local authorities would lead the investigation, ABC News reported. The Houston branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) also said it is responding to the incident.
