Thank you, President
especiales
"... I felt next to you the pride of belonging to our people ..." Che had written to Fidel in his farewell letter before taking his internationalist vocation to other lands of the world.
With that phrase he was referring to Fidel's foreseen behavior during that tense October 1962, when the world was on the brink of a nuclear war.
Now, 59 years later, also in October, and when the world is once again on the brink of disaster, this time caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic, those words of Che Guevara could well vibrate with renewed echoes, this time referring to the actions of the current Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
With a "Thank you Cuba, it will always be an honor to be at your service, beloved country", finished the Cuban president, visibly moved, his speech at the closing of the V regular session of Parliament in its IX legislature.
To that heartfelt gratitude to the Cuban people, for whom he asked a large round of applause from the deputies as a special tribute to the understanding and participation of Cubans in these difficult months of the Pandemic, we should reciprocate with a "Thank you, President."
Because few statesmen have shone so high - including Che - in these dark times of Pandemic, always with his commitment as a public servant as the beacon, always convinced that his greatest ally is the people.
He has been seen day and day out leading the meetings of the Temporary Working Task for the Prevention and Control of the New Coronavirus, exchanging with scientists from the most diverse disciplines to wisely promote science as the cornerstone of the government work, in constant interaction with the governors and other main figures in the Cuban provinces and municipalities ...
Lately, once again in his government tours, where the exchange with the people is plentiful because he is convinced, like Fidel was, that he must be devoted to them.
For this reason, for his leadership from the commitment and embrace to the roots, for his humility, and attentive listening to those who know best, for his respect to this people, who know the grouping of individuals full of potential, for helping us to go through this Pandemic with best luck than many other countries, for his consistency with the legacy of our history and its leaders, for defending every second the sovereignty of our “beloved homeland”, Thank you, President!
