Beijing, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) China on Monday announced that it will impose sanctions on top defense firms, including Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, for supplying weapons to Taiwan.
Without details, Zhao Lijian, China´s Foreign Ministry spokesman, said it is about a necessary response to protect China´s interests, given the White House insistence on holding discord on one of the most sensitive issues of bilateral ties.
Zhao Lijian said that Beijing will also impose sanctions on other US firms and individuals over arm sales to China´s Taiwan.
Zhao called the go-ahead to supply Taipei with advanced weapons for $ 1.8 billion as interference in internal affairs.
The action is part of a plan announced in 2019 by the US Pentagon and State Department over arm sales.
Zhao Lijian stressed that Washington thus sends a wrong signal to Taiwan, harms China's interests and national security, and also endangers bilateral relations, peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
