Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is today visiting places of economic, historical and social interest in the province of Granma, in the east of the Caribbean country.

According to national television reports, the Cuban leader began his government visit at the Demajagua Monument, where on October 10, 1868, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes gave the freedom to the slaves and began the struggles for the liberation of the island and against Spanish colonialism.

Diaz-Canel appreciated the state of conservation of the main symbols of the historic site and noted the maintenance work that is carried out with a view to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the wars of independence.

Subsequently, the head of State toured a center belonging to the National Institute for the Protection of Flora and Fauna.

Accompanied by the Minister of Industries, Salvador Pardo, and authorities of the territory, the Cuban President visited a battery factory where he experienced production difficulties due to delays in the importation of raw materials, and another factory specialized in parts and pieces for the sugar sector.
