Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the Union of Young Communists (UJC) and the Organization of Pioneers José Martí (OPJM) today for their 58th and 59th anniversaries, respectively.

About the date, the president expressed in his Twitter account: 'The Homeland is in them. Honorable April 4. #UJC and Pioneers of #Cuba anniversary. Congratulations. We postpone hugs and well-deserved celebrations. Today they touch effort and discipline to beat Covid-19. #WeareContinuity, #SomosCuba '

Likewise, in another of his messages, the head of State recalled the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, delivered on April 4, 1962, the day the former Young Rebel Association was renamed the Union of Young Communists.

'To believe in youth is to see in youth the best raw material of the country, the best raw material of youth, of the Revolution; to believe in youth is to look at all that our youth can do; is to see in that youth the worthy followers ... ', said Fidel.

This year the date cannot be celebrated with the usual joy and color due to the exceptional epidemiological situation caused on the island by the new coronavirus, a battle in which young people play a leading role in its combat.

In this regard, Díaz-Canel evoked a thought of the National Hero José Martí, who said that 'activity is a symbol of youth' and for the president, before Covid-19, young Cuban professionals and students 'make the country proud for its consecration and dedication, defying risks. It is the best greeting to April 4. '

In this sense, the president also referred to the inspiration of Cuban revolutionaries such as Julio Antonio Mella, Camilo Cienfuegos and Ernesto Che Guevara in the vanguard attitude of the new generations facing all challenges.

This Saturday, the UJC and the OPJM celebrate their anniversaries with a campaign on social networks, an alternative celebration to maintain the social isolation that circumstances demand.

Through national television, the first secretary of the UJC, Susely Morfa, referred to the discipline and highlighted the work of all those who are in the fight against the coronavirus, whether from science, health, the production of food, information or defense.

United we will win with humanism, solidarity, responsibility and industry, stressed the youth leader.
