Managua, July 28 (RHC)-- The president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega -- at the virtual meeting for the 30th anniversary of the Sao Paulo Forum -- called for the elimination of capitalism as the main virus affecting the people of the world.

"It is capitalism and neoliberalism.  That is the biggest virus," insisted the leader of the Sandinista Front when analyzing the context of the global pandemic of the COVID-19 "that is shaking the world economy."

"we must put an end to this virus, the very essence of selfishness and evil," said the Nicaraguan president.  "We are sure that a new consciousness is being generated on the planet about the need to change the (capitalist) model," emphasized Daniel Ortega.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro expressed in the framework of the 30th anniversary of the Sao Paulo Forum that the processes of liberation in the region continue despite the constant attacks.

"We are the perfect historical thread of union and liberation of Latin America and the Caribbean; we are the continuation of the struggles to vindicate the peoples of the Great Homeland," said President Maduro.

The Bolivarian leader recalled the basic objectives of the Sao Paulo Forum, "when the lights went out in the world, the Forum appeared as a hope.  It will always be inclusive that consists of pluralism and democratic debates," he added.

"The Sao Paulo Forum is a democratizing force in Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing together more parties from the region and from the rest of the world such as Asia, Europe and the United States (...) The doors are open to all movements, parties and popular revolutionary bases," said Nicolas Maduro.
