Lima, June 2 (RHC)-- Peruvian political leader Alvaro Campana declared that the inclusion of Cuba on a list of countries that do not cooperate with the fight against terrorism is part of an escalation by the United States against Latin America.

According to Campana, secretary general of the New Peru Movement (NP), this measure is part of "the interventionist and demagogic escalation of the Trump government in Latin America, in the context of the crisis that the North American country is experiencing."

In statements to Prensa Latina news agency, the Peruvian leader said that Washington uses nations like Colombia, where human rights are violated every day, social leaders are murdered and any peaceful solution to the armed conflict is crushed, to intervene in other countries in the region.

"The United States and its pawn, the Colombian government, constantly support violence and war, accusing others of terrorism in order to recover their control in the region and impose their designs," added Campana.

The Peruvian leader said that this is in addition to the crisis being experienced by the United States due to the ineptitude of its government in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and the outbreak of major mobilizations throughout the country, caused by racist violence.

As part of the context of the crisis, the secretary general of NP mentioned "the proximity of the elections, in the face of which the Trump administratoin seeks to convey a supposed image of strength that in reality it is much weaker."
