Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a blow in the European Golden Shoe race after Ciro Immobile took the lead and went four goals clear of the Juventus superstar.

The Juventus superstar scored once in his side's 2-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday, which saw the Bianconeri secure a ninth straight Serie A title.

However, Ronaldo missed a late penalty and opportunity to take his tally to 32 strikes in the league this season.

Ciro Immobile, meanwhile, took a massive step towards lifting his first Golden Shoe after scoring a hat-trick in Lazio's 5-1 victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday. On Wednesday, he scored another goal against Brescia to go one goal clear of Robert Lewandowksi.

The Bayern Munich striker had ended the Bundesliga campaign with 34 strikes, but now dropped into second place.

Meanwhile, only one player in Serie A's history has scored more goals than Immobile in a single campaign, namely Gonzalo Higuain with 36 in 2015/16.

Further down the ranking, Romelu Lukaku netted a brace to climb to seventh position. The Inter Milan striker has now scored 23 goals in his debut season in Serie A so far.
