Mexico, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) Restrictions on land traffic on the Mexico-United States common border will be extended for another month due to the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE) confirmed.

The SRE reported on Tuesday that those restrictions will be in force until August 21.

On its Twitter account, the SRE explained that after reviewing the development of Covid-19, it proposed the US Government to extend restrictions on non-essential land traffic on their common border for another 30 days.

The measure will remain in the same terms on which they have been implemented since March 21. Mexico and the United States will continue seeking the way to coordinate health provisions in the border region, the SRE posted on Twitter.

On June 16, the two countries agreed to extend the measures until July 21. However, as the virus has not weakened in both nations, they decided on Tuesday to extend them for 30 another days in order to continue with the actions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Over the last few weeks, hundreds of thousands of people have crossed the land border every day, and 90% of them were US citizens or green card holders.
