Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez affirmed that the promotion and protection of the rights of children and adolescents is a priority for his country.

On his Twitter account, the foreign minister referred to the fact that the achievements of the Caribbean nation in this area are recognized at the international level, including the United Nations agencies and programs that address these issues.

Just this past week, several of these agencies have referred to the positive results of the Caribbean nation in preserving the well-being of children.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Cuba, in connection with the global launch of the State of World Population 2020 Report, highlighted that the law that protects Cuban girls from child marriage, while national reports on female genital mutilation are absent.

Likewise, at the annual session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the chargé d'affaires of Cuba before the UN, Ana Silvia Rodríguez, addressed the issue of free universal health and education services.  The ambassador explained that Cuba has the 35th position among the countries in the world with the lowest infant mortality, with 5 per every 1000 live births, and a survival rate during the first five years of life above 99 percent.

Another aspect that reflects the protection of children is the National Immunization Program, which despite the restrictions imposed by the U.S. blockade, is maintained and guarantees coverage for almost 100 percent against 13 diseases.

Recently, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also recognized the achievements of Cuba in terms of its educational policies and the guarantee of inclusive and quality education.
