FM Rodriguez highlights Cuba's diagnostic capacity for Covid-19

Havana, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez highlighted on Wednesday the country's increased diagnostic capacity for Covid-19, as a sign of the political will to protect the health of the people.

On Twitter, the Foreign Minister said that the gradual and systematic rise in PCR tests reflects Cuba's will to fight against the pandemic despite the limitations imposed by the US economic blockade, which prevents the purchase of medical supplies and equipment.

According to specialists, the approximate calculation of the cost of each PCR that is done is 50 dollars, and experts have carried out 454,724 PCR tests from March to now in the country.

The head of Cuban diplomacy added on the social network that this effort must be responsibly supported to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

On Tuesday, specialists studied 7,948 samples to detect SARS-CoV-2, the third consecutive day exceeding the 7,000 daily tests.

Cuba began the fight against the novel coronavirus with four molecular biology laboratories with the capacity to perform PCR tests in real time that allow detecting the virus genome in a sample of a nasopharyngeal exudate.
