Cuban National Circus celebrates 52nd anniversary

Determined to keep the magic under the tent, the artists of the Cuban National Circus are celebrating this Saturday the 52nd anniversary of that institution, which has been highly acclaimed for its skill and creativity in both Cuba and abroad.

Acrobats, magicians, clowns, jugglers, gymnasts, balancing artists and the most dissimilar options are combined in the company's performances for more than five decades, due to its ability to capture the audiences' attention and offer a unique mixture of music, dance and stage projection.

More than two centuries have elapsed since the first references about the performances of jugglers, conjurers, acrobats, mimes and tightrope walkers, who performed in popular parties, private celebrations and public squares.

Rudimentary establishments came later for the equestrian circus, where the foundations of the vernacular theater were laid, then the tent became a great stage, circus performances from France, Panama, the United States, among other countries, toured Cuba, and local companies began to emerge.

The Cuban circus has been present in the most important festivals around the world and it has received prestigious awards. It offers training courses in different specialties, as well as in assembly and updating, as it has experts that can provide comprehensive training.
